About Us

We're Handicare, a nonprofit child care agency and daycare center in Coralville, IA, since 1981. We offer child care for children between the ages of 6 weeks and 9 years old. We are proud partners with the Iowa City Community School District to provide a 4-year-old preschool program as part of the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program. Our warm and caring staff use a variety of fun learning activities to keep infants, toddlers, and preschoolers happy and engaged during their time with us. Our school age program promotes socialization and healthy habits. Our goal is always providing the highest quality care in a safe environment for all children. We're looking forward to partnering with Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, and the surrounding area parents to continue providing thoughtful care that is tailored to meet the individual needs of each child. Our Story

Since 1981, Handicare has been dedicated to providing dependable, nurturing child care for families throughout Coralville, IA, and the surrounding communities. As a nonprofit child care agency and daycare center, we believe every child deserves a safe, welcoming place where they can learn, grow, explore, and develop at their own pace. We care for children from as young as six weeks through nine years old, offering programs designed to support their individual needs through every stage of early childhood.

Our approach to child care goes beyond simply providing supervision. We strive to create meaningful daily experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, confidence, and positive social development. Our caring classroom staff incorporate age-appropriate activities, hands-on learning opportunities, and plenty of time for play to keep children engaged throughout the day. From introducing infants to new sights and sounds to helping preschoolers build early learning skills, we make each child's experience enjoyable and rewarding.

Handicare is also proud to partner with the Iowa City Community School District to offer a four-year-old preschool program through Iowa's Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program. This opportunity helps prepare children for their next educational steps by encouraging early literacy, communication, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. Our school-age program provides additional support for children who need care before and after school, helping them maintain healthy routines, build friendships, and enjoy time with their peers outside the classroom.

We understand that finding reliable child care is an important decision for parents. With flexible early drop-off and late pick-up options, before and after-school care, summer programming, and drop-in availability on days when school is closed, we offer solutions that help accommodate changing family schedules. Handicare is a caring, safe, and fun place for kids, especially those with special needs. My elder daughter uses a power wheelchair. We sent her to Handicare for summer when she was 4. Handicare took very good care of her and she was very happy with the teachers and kids there. A few years later we sent our little one to Handicare again, who has been with Handicare for 3 years now. She went from the 1 year old class to 2 and then to 3, and will continue! We can feel every morning she is happy to go! The kids at Handicare are friendly and with good manners. The teachers and staff are very caring, responsible, and kind. I will recommend Handicare to everyone looking for a daycare.

Handicare is excellent! Yes, friendly hours, secure key pad entry, user friendly app, clean. Laura is the director and easy to work with. If there is a known parental concern, she will address and resolve or work to resolve it. She greets kids and parents by name. The teachers have become like family - Nowadr, Asmhan, Susan, Emma, Danielle, Annalecia. Mary keeps the meals and snacks coming from the kitchen. We love Handicare and highly recommend it!

Handicare has been absolutely amazing to our family! Where to begin? When my husband and I first toured this place when I was around 20 weeks pregnant, we got the feeling that this daycare was something special. Fast forward to having our 5 month old son in daycare here, we were so right! The employees are experienced, professional, kind, nurturing and go above and beyond. A good portion of their employees I have met have worked here over 10-20 years.. Wow! I love that this place feels like a work family and not like a business. They have been very accommodating to our family's daycare needs, for which I am so thankful. Most importantly, I have peace in knowing they take wonderful care of my child while I am at work! He is happy when I pick him up and tired from all the fun he has had. I highly recommend Handicare daycare without reservation! You will not be disappointed!
